Ceolnoth
Ceolnoth (died 870) was an Anglo-Saxon Archbishop of Canterbury in the 9th century. He succeeded Æthelred in 833 and held the position until his death. Relatively little is known about his life and episcopate, but his tenure occurred during a period of significant Danish Viking raids and increasing political instability in England. Historical sources offer scant details regarding his actions or policies as archbishop. He is listed in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle as the successor to Æthelred, and his death is also recorded in the Chronicle. Charters attributed to his episcopate exist, which shed some light on land transactions and ecclesiastical administration during his time, though their authenticity has occasionally been questioned. His successor was Æthelred. The primary sources for information about Ceolnoth remain the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle and surviving charters.
