Qannuyak

Qannuyak (also spelled Qannuq) is a type of Inuit storage container traditionally made from sealskin. These containers are typically large and used for storing dried meat, fish, or other food supplies. The sealskin is carefully sewn together to create a waterproof or water-resistant bag. The size of a qannuyak can vary significantly depending on the needs of the family or community. Qannuyat were often used for caching food supplies outside of dwellings to preserve them in cold climates. The construction and use of qannuyat demonstrate the ingenuity of Inuit peoples in utilizing available resources for survival in harsh environments. The term can also refer more generally to large, durable bags made of animal skin used for storage.
