84 Klio

84 Klio is a main-belt asteroid discovered by Robert Luther on August 25, 1865, in Düsseldorf. It is named after Clio, the muse of history in Greek mythology.

Klio is a relatively large asteroid, estimated to be about 79 kilometers in diameter. Its surface is dark, suggesting a carbonaceous composition. It orbits the Sun in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.

Observations of Klio have revealed that it has two satellites. The first, Linus, was discovered in 2001 and is much smaller than Klio. The second, named Bitias, was discovered in 2010. The presence of satellites allows astronomers to more accurately determine the mass and density of Klio. The Klio system provides valuable information about the formation and evolution of asteroids in the early solar system. The orbital characteristics of Linus and Bitias suggest a complex dynamical history.

Asteroid Klio has been studied using various methods, including photometry and spectroscopy, to understand its physical properties, composition, and rotational period. Further research continues to refine our understanding of this intriguing asteroid system.
