Preturo

Preturo is a frazione (hamlet) of L'Aquila, in the Abruzzo region of central Italy. It is situated approximately 10 kilometers east of the city center of L'Aquila, in the Aterno river valley.

Historically, Preturo has been an agricultural area, with a focus on cultivating land in the fertile valley. Its economy has largely revolved around farming and livestock raising. Like many communities in the area, Preturo suffered significant damage in the 2009 L'Aquila earthquake.

Since the earthquake, Preturo has been involved in reconstruction efforts, aimed at restoring its infrastructure, housing, and community life. It has become a symbol of resilience and recovery in the face of adversity. The establishment of a temporary airport terminal near Preturo following the earthquake played a crucial role in facilitating relief efforts and aiding the city's recovery. This temporary structure has since been dismantled.

Preturo continues to be a close-knit community striving to rebuild and preserve its cultural heritage. Its location in the Abruzzo Apennines provides a backdrop of scenic beauty, contributing to the area's potential for sustainable tourism in the future.
