Hunndalen

Hunndalen is a suburban district located within the municipality of Gjøvik in Innlandet county, Norway. It lies approximately 4 kilometers northeast of the town center of Gjøvik, and is situated on the eastern shore of Lake Mjøsa. Hunndalen is primarily a residential area, characterized by a mix of detached houses, apartment buildings, and terraced houses.

Historically, Hunndalen was a more rural area, but has seen significant growth and development in recent decades due to its proximity to Gjøvik and its attractive location near the lake. The area features several amenities, including schools (both primary and secondary), kindergartens, shops, and sports facilities.

The name "Hunndalen" is believed to derive from Old Norse, with "hunn" possibly referring to a type of fish or a personal name, and "dalen" meaning "the valley." Therefore, Hunndalen can be interpreted as "the valley of the hunn" or "the valley of the fish."

Hunndalen is well-connected to Gjøvik and surrounding areas by public transportation, including bus services. It is also situated near the E6 highway, providing easy access to other parts of Norway.
