Paul Berry (politician)
Paul Berry is a Northern Irish politician who served as an independent Unionist Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for Newry and Armagh. He was first elected to the Assembly in 1998 and served until 2017.
Berry was known for his socially conservative views, particularly on issues such as abortion and same-sex marriage. He was a prominent member of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) for many years, but resigned from the party in 2007 following disagreements over policy and leadership. After leaving the DUP, he continued to serve as an independent Unionist MLA.
During his time in the Assembly, Berry served on various committees, including the Agriculture and Rural Development Committee and the Health, Social Services and Public Safety Committee. He often voiced concerns about the impact of government policies on rural communities and the farming industry.
In addition to his work as an MLA, Berry was also involved in local government, serving as a councillor for the Armagh City and District Council. He was a strong advocate for the interests of his constituents and worked to address issues such as housing, infrastructure, and community development.
