Ristikko

Ristikko (Finnish for "crossword")

A ristikko is a type of word puzzle, specifically a crossword puzzle, common in Finland and other Finnish-speaking regions. The puzzle consists of a grid of white and black squares. The goal is to fill the white squares with letters, which form words or phrases, by solving clues which lead to the answers. Clues are typically numbered to correspond to the spaces in the grid. Answers run horizontally (from left to right) and vertically (from top to bottom). Intersecting words share common letters.

Crossword puzzles, including ristikot, are a popular form of recreation and mental exercise. Difficulty levels vary, from simple puzzles suitable for children to complex, challenging puzzles for experienced solvers.
