Palézieux
Palézieux is a village in the municipality of Oron in the canton of Vaud, Switzerland. Prior to 2012, it was a municipality in its own right.
History:
Palézieux's history dates back to the Middle Ages. Records show evidence of settlement and agricultural activity in the region for centuries. The village has historically been a part of various seigneuries and jurisdictions before becoming integrated into the canton of Vaud.
Geography:
Palézieux is situated in the Gros-de-Vaud region. It's located near the Broye river and is part of a rolling, primarily agricultural landscape.
Transportation:
Palézieux is a significant railway junction. Palézieux railway station is a major interchange point on the Swiss Federal Railways (SBB CFF FFS) network, connecting lines to Lausanne, Bern, Romont, and other destinations. This strategic location makes it a key transportation hub in the region.
Economy:
The economy of Palézieux has historically been centered on agriculture. However, due to its excellent transport links, it also houses businesses related to logistics, warehousing, and distribution. Many residents commute to larger urban centers for employment.
Merger:
On January 1, 2012, the municipality of Palézieux merged with Bussigny-sur-Oron, Châtillens, Chesalles-sur-Oron, Les Cullayes, Les Tavernes, Oron-la-Ville, and Oron-le-Châtel to form the new municipality of Oron.
