Orosháza

Orosháza is a city located in Békés County, in the Southern Great Plain region of Hungary. It is situated approximately 170 kilometers southeast of Budapest.

History:

The area around Orosháza has been inhabited since ancient times. The modern settlement was formed in the 18th century, specifically in 1744, after the expulsion of Ottoman forces from the region and the resettlement of the depopulated areas. Orosháza was created through the unification of several smaller settlements. The name "Orosháza" likely derives from the name of one of these earlier villages. In the 19th century, Orosháza developed significantly, becoming an important agricultural and commercial center. It officially gained city status in 1946.
