N70 road (Ireland)

The N70 is a national secondary road in Ireland. It forms a loop around the Iveragh Peninsula in County Kerry, also known as the Ring of Kerry. This scenic route is popular with tourists and provides access to several towns and attractions in the region.

The road begins in Tralee, County Kerry, and travels generally in a clockwise direction around the peninsula. Major towns along the route include Killorglin, Glenbeigh, Cahersiveen, Waterville, Caherdaniel, Sneem, and Kenmare. From Kenmare, the road continues towards Killarney. The section between Killarney and Tralee is designated as the N22, not the N70, despite being part of the wider Ring of Kerry driving route.

The N70 is a mixture of road types, ranging from relatively modern sections to narrow, winding stretches, particularly along the coastal areas. Drivers are advised to exercise caution due to the varying road conditions, especially during peak tourist seasons when traffic volume is high. The route is a key element in the infrastructure supporting tourism in County Kerry. The road’s surface quality and alignment have seen improvement works over the years, though some sections still require further upgrading.
