My Wife's Family (1956 film)
My Wife's Family is a 1956 British comedy film directed by Gilbert Gunn. It is based on the play of the same name by Fred Reynolds. The film stars Ronald Shiner, Diane Hart, and Robertson Hare. The plot revolves around a henpecked husband, Percy Pringle (Shiner), whose life is dominated by his overbearing wife and her extended family, particularly his mother-in-law (Hare). He finds himself constantly trying to escape their control and assert his own independence, often with comical and disastrous results. The film is known for its broad humour and slapstick elements, characteristic of British comedies of the era. It is a remake of earlier film versions of the play, including films released in 1931 and 1941, also titled My Wife's Family.
