Moorends
Moorends is a village and civil parish in the Metropolitan Borough of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. It lies to the north-east of Thorne, and close to the boundary with Lincolnshire. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, Moorends is situated on the flat, low-lying land of Hatfield Chase, which was extensively drained in the 17th century.
The name "Moorends" likely derives from its location at the "moor ends," referring to its position at the edge of Hatfield Moors. The village's development is closely tied to the drainage of the moors and the subsequent agricultural activities in the reclaimed land.
Moorends has a relatively small population and is primarily a residential area. Local amenities include shops, pubs, and a primary school. The village is served by Thorne North railway station, located just outside of Moorends, providing access to wider regional transport links. The area is predominantly rural, with agriculture remaining an important part of the local economy.
