Montanari (crater)
Montanari is a lunar impact crater located in the northern hemisphere of the Moon's near side. It is situated to the southwest of the prominent crater Plato and to the northeast of the Montes Caucasus mountain range. The crater's relatively small size and relatively undamaged condition suggest that it is a relatively young formation, likely formed during a later period of lunar bombardment. Its diameter is approximately 28 kilometers. The rim is relatively sharp and well-defined, with little evidence of significant erosion or degradation. The interior floor appears relatively flat and lacks any significant central peak or other prominent internal features. Further detailed observations are needed to determine the precise mineralogical composition and formation history of Montanari. The crater is named after the Italian astronomer Geminiano Montanari.
