Mid Fife and Glenrothes (Scottish Parliament constituency)
Mid Fife and Glenrothes is a constituency of the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood). It elects one Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) by the first past the post method of election. It is also one of nine constituencies within the Mid Scotland and Fife electoral region, which elects seven additional members, in addition to the nine constituency MSPs, to produce a form of proportional representation for the region as a whole.
The constituency was created for the 2011 Scottish Parliament election, largely replacing the previous seat of Central Fife. It covers a central portion of Fife, including the new town of Glenrothes and surrounding communities.
The boundaries of the Mid Fife and Glenrothes constituency are defined by the electoral wards used in local council elections. These boundaries are periodically reviewed and may change between elections.
The current MSP for Mid Fife and Glenrothes is Jenny Gilruth of the Scottish National Party (SNP).
The seat has generally been considered a contest between the SNP and the Scottish Labour Party, although other parties have also contested elections in the constituency. Election results can vary significantly depending on national political trends and local issues.
