Microxina

Microxina is a genus of demosponges belonging to the family Niphatidae. These marine sponges are primarily found in shallow-water environments within tropical and subtropical regions.

Microxina sponges are characterized by their branching or encrusting growth forms. Their skeletons consist of a network of spongin fibers reinforced by siliceous spicules called oxeas. The oxeas are typically smooth and slightly curved.

Little is known about the specific feeding habits of Microxina beyond the general sponge characteristic of filter feeding. They extract nutrients and organic matter from the water column by drawing water through their pores and filtering out particles.
