Michel Bouvier (scientist)

Michel Bouvier is a Canadian molecular pharmacologist and cell biologist, best known for his work on G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). He is a professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine at the Université de Montréal and holds a Canada Research Chair in Signal Transduction and Molecular Pharmacology.

Bouvier's research focuses on the regulation, signaling, and trafficking of GPCRs, a large family of transmembrane receptors involved in a wide range of physiological processes. His laboratory has made significant contributions to understanding the molecular mechanisms underlying GPCR desensitization, internalization, and signaling bias. He has developed bioluminescence resonance energy transfer (BRET)-based biosensors to study GPCR interactions and signaling in real-time.

Bouvier received his Ph.D. in Pharmacology from McGill University. He has received numerous awards and honors for his research, including the Wilder Penfield Prize and the Prix du Québec. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. His work has significantly advanced the understanding of GPCR biology and its relevance to drug discovery.
