Harmanli

Harmanli is a town located in Haskovo Province, southern Bulgaria. It is the administrative centre of Harmanli Municipality.

History: The area has been inhabited since ancient times. During the Ottoman period, Harmanli was an important stopping point on the road to Istanbul. The name "Harmanli" is thought to be derived from the Turkish word "harman" meaning "threshing floor," suggesting the area was a significant agricultural center. It officially became a town in 1845. During the Russo-Turkish War (1877-1878), the area saw heavy fighting.
