Michael Hill is a New Zealand entrepreneur best known as the founder of Michael Hill Jeweller, a major international jewellery chain.

Hill began his career as a watchmaker and jeweller in Whangarei, New Zealand. Frustrated with the traditional business practices of established jewellers, he sought to create a more modern and customer-focused retail experience. In 1979, he opened his first Michael Hill Jeweller store in Whangarei.

His business model focused on high-volume sales, innovative marketing techniques, and a welcoming store atmosphere. This departure from the industry standard proved successful, leading to rapid expansion throughout New Zealand and subsequently into Australia, Canada, and the United States.
