Michael Barratt (television presenter)
Michael Barratt (born 1928, died 10 July 2006) was a British television presenter and journalist. He was best known for presenting the BBC's magazine programme Nationwide from 1969 to 1983.
Barratt began his career in journalism, working for provincial newspapers before joining the BBC in 1956. He initially worked as a reporter on Tonight before becoming a presenter on various current affairs programmes.
His tenure on Nationwide made him a household name in the UK. He was known for his avuncular style and his ability to handle a wide range of topics, from serious news stories to light-hearted features. After leaving Nationwide, he continued to work in television, presenting programmes such as Sixty Minutes and Songs of Praise.
Barratt was a prominent figure in British broadcasting for several decades. He was awarded an OBE in 1983 for his services to television.
