Casita del Príncipe (El Pardo)

The Casita del Príncipe (El Pardo), also known as the Casita del Príncipe de El Pardo, is a small palace or folly located near the Royal Palace of El Pardo, near Madrid, Spain. It was commissioned by Charles IV when he was still Prince of Asturias. Built between 1771 and 1779, it exemplifies the Neoclassical style favored during the reign of Charles III.

The structure was designed by the architect Manuel Godoy, although it later involved interventions from other architects, including Juan de Villanueva. It served as a recreational retreat for the Prince and his wife, Maria Luisa of Parma.

The interior is richly decorated with fine materials such as marble, bronze, and precious woods. It features intricate marquetry floors, silk wall coverings, and ceilings adorned with frescoes. The Casita del Príncipe is significantly smaller and more intimate than the main palace, reflecting its purpose as a private and pleasurable escape for the royal family.

Today, the Casita del Príncipe (El Pardo) is managed by Patrimonio Nacional (National Heritage) and is open to the public as a historical monument. It provides visitors with a glimpse into the luxurious lifestyle of the Spanish royal family during the 18th century. It is considered one of the best examples of decorative arts from that period in Spain.
