McCloud (TV series)
McCloud is an American police drama television series that aired from 1970 to 1977 on NBC. It starred Dennis Weaver as Deputy Marshal Sam McCloud of the Taos, New Mexico, police force, who is assigned to temporary duty with the New York City Police Department as a special investigator.
The series was part of NBC's NBC Mystery Movie anthology, rotating with Columbo and McMillan & Wife. Each episode was essentially a self-contained movie, typically running 90 to 120 minutes in length.
McCloud's character was a fish-out-of-water, a laconic cowboy transplanted to the bustling metropolis of New York City. He wore his signature Stetson hat and sheepskin coat, and his western sensibilities often clashed with the procedures and attitudes of the NYPD, particularly with his superior, Chief Peter B. Clifford, played by J.D. Cannon. Despite their frequent disagreements, McCloud usually managed to solve the crime through a combination of his unique perspective, folksy charm, and determination.
The series was known for its scenic shots of New York City and for Weaver's portrayal of McCloud, a good-natured and persistent lawman who was dedicated to justice. While initially based in New Mexico, the character was written into a temporary assignment in New York, providing the premise for the series.
