Mars (oil platform)

Mars is a tension-leg platform (TLP) oil platform operated by Shell Offshore Inc. in the Mississippi Canyon area of the Gulf of Mexico. Located approximately 130 miles (210 km) southeast of New Orleans, Louisiana, in a water depth of about 2,940 feet (896 meters), Mars began production in 1996.

The platform is designed to produce from multiple subsea wells and is capable of processing large volumes of oil and natural gas. The produced hydrocarbons are transported to shore via subsea pipelines.

Mars has undergone expansions and upgrades over the years to increase its production capacity and extend its operational life. These projects have included the addition of new wells and the integration of tiebacks from nearby fields.

Due to its location in a hurricane-prone region, Mars is designed to withstand extreme weather conditions. Safety systems and emergency procedures are in place to protect personnel and the environment. The platform's design incorporates features to minimize the risk of spills and other incidents.

Mars is a significant contributor to oil and gas production in the Gulf of Mexico and represents a substantial investment in offshore energy infrastructure.
