Marcos (footballer, born 1974)
Marcos Roberto Silveira Reis, commonly known as Marcos (born August 4, 1973, in Oriente, São Paulo), is a Brazilian former professional footballer who played as a goalkeeper. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest goalkeepers in Brazilian football history, and an idol for Palmeiras fans.
Marcos spent his entire professional career with Palmeiras, from 1992 to 2012. He was a crucial part of the Palmeiras team that won several titles in the late 1990s and early 2000s, including the Copa Libertadores in 1999.
He was also a key member of the Brazilian national team. Marcos played in the 2002 FIFA World Cup, where he was the starting goalkeeper and helped Brazil win the tournament. He was known for his agility, shot-stopping ability, and command of his area. After retiring from professional football, he has remained connected to Palmeiras in an ambassadorial role. His loyalty to the club throughout his career, despite numerous offers from European teams, solidified his legendary status among supporters.
