MERA25

MERA25 is a left-wing political party in Greece. It was founded in March 2018 by Yanis Varoufakis, the former Minister of Finance under the Syriza-led government. The name MERA25 is an acronym for "European Realistic Disobedience Front 2025" (Μέτωπο Ευρωπαϊκής Ρεαλιστικής Ανυπακοής 2025).

The party advocates for a renegotiation of Greece's debt, a "New Deal for Europe," and policies aimed at combating economic inequality. Its platform includes proposals for green investments, a European anti-poverty program, and a radical restructuring of the European Union.

MERA25 ran in the 2019 European Parliament election but did not win any seats. In the 2019 Greek legislative election, the party secured representation in the Hellenic Parliament, exceeding the 3% threshold. The party's influence and representation in parliament has varied in subsequent elections. MERA25 positions itself as a progressive and internationalist force in Greek and European politics.
