Bistrica (Nova Varoš)
Bistrica is a village in the municipality of Nova Varoš, in the Zlatibor District of Serbia. It is located in southwestern Serbia, near the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro. The village lies on the banks of the Uvac River.
Geographically, Bistrica is situated in a mountainous region characterized by valleys and forests. The Uvac River, known for its meandering canyons and rich biodiversity, is a defining feature of the area.
The population of Bistrica is relatively small, consisting primarily of Serbs. The economy is largely based on agriculture, livestock farming, and increasingly, tourism. The Uvac Special Nature Reserve, a popular destination for birdwatching and scenic boat tours through the river's canyons, has contributed to the growth of tourism in the region, impacting Bistrica and surrounding villages.
Access to Bistrica is primarily via road. The village is connected to Nova Varoš and other nearby settlements through a network of local roads.
Bistrica, like other villages in the Nova Varoš municipality, has experienced some population decline in recent decades, although tourism may be helping to offset this trend somewhat. The preservation of the natural environment and the development of sustainable tourism initiatives are key priorities for the region's future.
