Manon (artist)
Manon is the professional name of German artist Manon була, born in Berlin in 1946. She is primarily known for her performance art, photography, and installations that explore themes of gender, identity, sexuality, and societal norms.
Manon's work often features her own body and persona as a central element, challenging conventional representations of femininity and pushing the boundaries of accepted social behavior. Her performances and photographs frequently incorporate provocative imagery and address taboo subjects, aiming to provoke discussion and disrupt established power structures.
She was a significant figure in the West Berlin art scene of the 1970s and 1980s, associated with the Neue Wilde movement, although her work often stood apart from the more painterly focus of that group. Manon's artistic practice has been characterized by its performative and confrontational nature, using shock and transgression to engage with audiences and challenge societal expectations. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is held in numerous public and private collections.
