Manhattan Beach (Denver)
Manhattan Beach was a privately owned amusement resort located near present-day Sloan's Lake in Denver, Colorado. Opened in 1890 by the Denver Tramway Company, it aimed to increase ridership on their streetcar lines. The resort featured a large artificial lake, a dance pavilion, a toboggan slide, boat rentals, and various concessions. It offered recreational activities and entertainment for Denver residents, particularly during the summer months. The area surrounding the resort saw significant residential development as a result of its popularity. Manhattan Beach experienced a fire in 1908 that damaged some of the structures. Competition from other amusement parks and changing entertainment preferences eventually led to its decline. The resort was closed in the early 20th century, and the land was redeveloped. While little physical evidence of Manhattan Beach remains, it is remembered as a significant part of Denver's early amusement park history.
