Chanzaq
Chanzaq (sometimes alternatively spelled Chanzaq) is a term with limited and geographically specific usage. It primarily refers to a type of traditional Turkic bread, particularly common in parts of Central Asia, specifically Uzbekistan. Chanzaq is typically a flatbread, characterized by its round shape and often adorned with intricate patterns pressed into the surface before baking. The dough usually consists of flour, water, salt, and yeast, and may sometimes include milk or other ingredients to enhance flavor and texture.
The preparation method involves proofing the dough, shaping it into a disc, and creating the characteristic patterns using a special tool or by hand. Chanzaq is traditionally baked in a tandoor (clay oven), which imparts a distinctive flavor and texture. The high heat of the tandoor results in a bread that is crisp on the outside and soft on the inside.
