Majenta

Majenta, spelled correctly as magenta, is a color that is variously defined as a purplish-red, reddish-purple, or mauvish-red. It is one of the three subtractive primary colors of the CMYK color model, commonly used in color printing. In this model, magenta, along with cyan and yellow, are used to create a wide range of colors by selectively absorbing certain wavelengths of light.

Magenta is located between red and blue on the color wheel. It's often described as being more vibrant than a typical purple, and is distinct from violet, which is a spectral color. The color is named after the dye fuchsine, which was originally named "magenta" in 1859 to commemorate the Battle of Magenta, fought near the Italian town of Magenta, Italy, in that same year.

The perception of magenta arises from the eye interpreting light with a dominant wavelength in the range of approximately 490 to 560 nanometers, specifically lacking both green and yellow wavelengths. It is not a color found in the spectrum of visible light; rather, it's a non-spectral color created in the brain when the eye receives a mixture of red and blue light. This is because the red and blue cones are stimulated, but the green cones are not.

Magenta has been used in various fields, including art, fashion, and printing. Different shades and variations of magenta exist, such as shocking pink (a bright, vivid magenta) and rose, which contains a higher proportion of red.

The use of the spelling "majenta" is generally considered a misspelling of "magenta".
