Lycaste (mythology)
In Greek mythology, Lycaste (Λυκάστη) is a relatively minor figure, primarily known as the daughter of Icarus.
According to some accounts, she was the mother of Leucippus by Oenomaus, king of Pisa. The story of Leucippus' parentage varies in different sources, with other figures such as Hippothoe and Sterope also being named as his mother. The association of Lycaste with Oenomaus is most often found in genealogical accounts aimed at establishing lineages for various heroes and dynasties.
Her significance stems mainly from her lineage, connecting her to the ill-fated Icarus, famous for flying too close to the sun and falling into the sea. She serves as a link in the chain of mythological ancestry rather than being a protagonist in any major myths or legends. Information regarding Lycaste is scant and often contradictory among ancient sources.
