Leon River (Colombia)
The Leon River is a river located in northwestern Colombia, flowing primarily through the Chocó Department. It originates in the Cordillera Occidental (Western Andes) and flows generally northwards, emptying into the Atlantic Ocean via the Gulf of Urabá, near the town of Turbo. The river's basin is characterized by dense tropical rainforest and a humid climate. It is an important waterway for local communities, used for transportation, fishing, and other economic activities. The Leon River and its surrounding ecosystem are home to diverse flora and fauna. Deforestation and mining activities represent potential threats to the river's ecological health.
