Lechaina
Lechaina (Greek: Λεχαινά) is a town and former municipality in Elis, Peloponnese, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality of Andravida-Kyllini, of which it is the seat. It is located near the Ionian Sea coast, about 6 km southwest of Andravida, 8 km north of Gastouni and approximately 80 km southwest of Patras.
Historically, Lechaina has served as a significant agricultural and commercial center in the region of Elis. The area surrounding Lechaina is fertile, and agriculture, particularly the cultivation of olives, grapes, and various fruits and vegetables, plays a vital role in the local economy.
The town has experienced periods of growth and decline influenced by various historical events, including wars and economic fluctuations. Modern Lechaina features a mix of traditional and modern architecture. It offers basic amenities such as schools, shops, banks, and healthcare facilities to serve its residents.
While not a major tourist destination, Lechaina provides access to nearby coastal areas and archaeological sites. It serves as a functional town for the local population and a point of connection for the surrounding agricultural communities. Its location near the coast makes it strategically important for local trade and transportation.
