Lea Bridge (speedway)
Lea Bridge Speedway was a motorcycle speedway track located in Lea Bridge, London, England. It operated intermittently from 1930 to 1984. The track was originally known as the Lea Bridge Stadium and also hosted greyhound racing.
Speedway racing first took place at Lea Bridge in 1930. Following a period of closure during World War II, the track was revived in the late 1940s and early 1950s, hosting various league and open meetings. Notable teams associated with the track include the Lea Bridge Cubs and the Lea Bridge Speedway.
The venue experienced periods of closure and re-opening throughout its history, reflecting the fluctuating popularity of speedway and the challenges of maintaining the stadium. Despite these challenges, Lea Bridge Speedway remained a significant part of London's sporting landscape for several decades.
The stadium eventually closed permanently in 1984, and the site was later redeveloped. Today, little remains of the original speedway track. It is remembered as one of the many short-lived circuits contributing to the sport's golden age in London.
