Lawrence (electoral district)
Lawrence is a provincial electoral district in Ontario, Canada. It elects one member to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. It was created in 2018 from parts of York Centre, Don Valley West, and Eglinton—Lawrence ridings.
The riding is located in the northern part of Toronto. Geographically, it is bounded by Highway 401 to the north, Bathurst Street to the west, Highway 404 to the east, and a line roughly following Lawrence Avenue East and then the Don River East Branch to the south.
The riding's population and demographics are diverse, reflecting the multicultural nature of Toronto. It includes residential areas, commercial strips along major roads, and green spaces. The riding includes a significant Jewish population and a notable number of immigrants from various countries.
Key issues in the riding include affordable housing, traffic congestion, access to healthcare, and funding for local schools. The riding is often considered a swing riding in provincial elections, and its electoral results can be sensitive to shifts in public opinion. The Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) for Lawrence is determined through a first-past-the-post electoral system.
