Laodicea (Mesopotamia)

Laodicea was not located in Mesopotamia. The city of Laodicea is most famously associated with Laodicea on the Lycus, located in modern-day Turkey, a significant city in the Roman province of Asia. There is no known historical record of a city named Laodicea in Mesopotamia (modern-day Iraq, Kuwait, parts of Syria and Turkey). Therefore, any information suggesting a Mesopotamian Laodicea is inaccurate. The confusion likely stems from the prevalence of numerous cities founded by Seleucid rulers bearing the name Laodicea, often named after various queens. However, none of these known Laodiceas were located in Mesopotamia. Further research is needed to ascertain the origin of this misconception.
