Lamon (Crete)
Lamon, in the context of Crete, refers to an ancient city located on the eastern part of the island. Situated in the territory of ancient Itanos, near modern Zakros, Lamon was a relatively small settlement.
Evidence suggests its existence from the Archaic to the Roman periods. Archaeological findings, including inscriptions and pottery, provide insights into its history and its relationship with neighboring cities. While not a major power like Knossos or Gortyn, Lamon played a part in the network of smaller settlements that dotted the Cretan landscape.
Due to its relatively small size and limited excavation, detailed information about Lamon's political structure, economy, and social organization is still being pieced together by scholars. Further archaeological research is needed to fully understand the role of Lamon within the broader context of ancient Crete.
