Lambaréné

Lambaréné is a town in Gabon, located on the Ogooué River, approximately 250 kilometers south of the capital, Libreville. It is the capital of the Moyen-Ogooué province.

Lambaréné is best known for being the location of the Hôpital Albert Schweitzer, founded in 1913 by Albert Schweitzer, a German theologian, philosopher, physician, and musician. Schweitzer dedicated his life to providing medical care in the region, and the hospital became a symbol of his humanitarian work. He received the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952 for his "Reverence for Life" philosophy and his work at the hospital.
