Lê Ý Tông
Lê Ý Tông (黎懿宗), also known as Lê Duy Mật (黎維禋), was the 24th emperor of the Later Lê dynasty of Vietnam. He reigned from 1735 to 1740.
Lê Ý Tông was born Lê Duy Thận. He was the son of Prince Lê Duy Phương (later Emperor Lê Thuần Tông) and ascended the throne after his father's death.
His reign was marked by continued internal instability and peasant uprisings, a persistent feature of the late Lê dynasty under the Trịnh lords' rule. Real power remained with the Trịnh lords, who controlled the military and the court. Lê Ý Tông acted primarily as a figurehead.
During his brief reign, several major peasant revolts erupted, further weakening the Lê dynasty's authority. These uprisings exposed the government's inability to maintain order and highlighted the widespread discontent among the peasantry due to heavy taxation and corruption.
Lê Ý Tông died in 1740 and was succeeded by his younger brother, Lê Hiển Tông.
