Konstfack
Konstfack, officially Konstfack University College of Arts, Crafts and Design (Swedish: Konstfack – Högskolan för konst, hantverk och design), is a university college in Stockholm, Sweden, dedicated to arts, crafts and design. It is Sweden's largest university college of arts, crafts and design.
Konstfack offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in a wide range of artistic and design disciplines. These include, but are not limited to, fine arts, graphic design and illustration, industrial design, ceramics and glass, textile design, interior architecture and furniture design, and visual communication. The programs aim to foster critical thinking, artistic experimentation, and professional competence within their respective fields.
The institution has a long history, dating back to 1844 when it was founded as Söndagsritarskolan för hantverkare (Sunday Drawing School for Craftsmen). Its purpose was to provide artisans with training in drawing and design to improve the quality and competitiveness of Swedish crafts and industry. Over time, the school evolved and expanded its curriculum to encompass a broader spectrum of artistic and design disciplines.
Konstfack plays a significant role in the Swedish and international art and design scenes, contributing to innovation, research, and the development of new artistic and design practices. The university college is actively involved in research projects and collaborations with industry and other academic institutions.
The university college is located in the Telefonplan area of Stockholm, in a building that was originally a telephone factory. The building was renovated and adapted to house Konstfack's workshops, studios, and other facilities.
