John Delaney (Maryland politician)
John Delaney (Maryland politician) is an American businessman and politician who served as the U.S. Representative for Maryland's 6th congressional district from 2013 to 2019. A member of the Democratic Party, Delaney previously founded and led two publicly traded companies, HealthCare Financial Partners and CapitalSource.
Born in Wood-Ridge, New Jersey, Delaney graduated from Columbia University and Georgetown University Law Center. Before entering politics, he built a career in finance, focusing on lending to healthcare companies and middle-market businesses.
In 2012, Delaney defeated incumbent Republican Representative Roscoe Bartlett to win election to the U.S. House of Representatives. He served three terms, focusing on issues such as infrastructure investment, job creation, and economic growth. He was a member of the House Financial Services Committee.
In July 2017, Delaney announced his candidacy for President of the United States in the 2020 election. His campaign focused on issues such as universal healthcare, infrastructure, and climate change. He suspended his campaign in January 2020.
Since leaving Congress, Delaney has remained active in public discourse, often speaking on policy issues and contributing to various political organizations.
