Kianoush Ayari

Kianoush Ayari (کیانوش عیاری in Persian) is an Iranian film director, screenwriter, and editor. He is known for his realistic and often socially conscious films, exploring themes of poverty, illness, and societal pressures. Ayari is recognized for his meticulous attention to detail and his use of non-professional actors to enhance the authenticity of his narratives. He has received numerous awards and accolades for his work, both nationally and internationally. Some of his notable films include Abadani-ha (1992), Boodan ya naboodan (1998), and The Paternal House (2012). Canada (2023), a film years in the making, encountered censorship hurdles but ultimately premiered. Ayari's films often portray the hardships faced by ordinary Iranians, offering a critical perspective on social and economic realities.
