Jumart
A jumart is a term historically used to describe a hybrid offspring of a bull and a mare, or a donkey and a cow. The belief in the existence of jumarts dates back to ancient and medieval times. The possibility of such a hybrid was often debated and sometimes accepted as fact in natural histories and folklore, although lacking scientific evidence. The concept of the jumart is now considered a zoological myth. Modern science has established that, due to genetic incompatibility, fertile or even viable offspring are not possible between these pairings of species. While hybridization can occur between closely related species, the genetic distance between bovines (cattle, bulls) and equines (horses, donkeys) is too great. The term 'jumart' is now primarily of historical interest, reflecting outdated understandings of animal reproduction and genetics.
