Rosh HaNikra (kibbutz)

Rosh HaNikra is a kibbutz located in the Western Galilee region of northern Israel, near the border with Lebanon. It sits on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, famous for its stunning grottoes and white cliffs.

Founded in 1949 by members of the "Hashomer Hatzair" youth movement, Rosh HaNikra initially focused on agriculture, including banana plantations and other crops. Over time, the kibbutz has diversified its economy to include tourism, with the Rosh HaNikra Grottoes being a major attraction. The grottoes are accessible by a cable car that descends steeply to sea level.

The kibbutz also operates a hotel and other tourist facilities. In addition to tourism and agriculture, Rosh HaNikra is involved in various industrial and manufacturing activities. The community maintains a communal lifestyle, although, like many kibbutzim in Israel, it has undergone reforms in recent years to incorporate more individual economic incentives.

Rosh HaNikra also refers to the geographical area surrounding the kibbutz, including the border crossing with Lebanon (which is currently closed) and the unique geological formations of the Rosh HaNikra cliffs. The area holds historical significance, having been a strategic location throughout history due to its proximity to important trade routes and borders.
