Jonathan Schwartz (radio personality)

Jonathan Schwartz (born July 19, 1938) is an American radio personality, disc jockey, and writer. He is best known for his encyclopedic knowledge of American popular music, particularly the Great American Songbook, and his deeply personal, often autobiographical style of broadcasting.

Schwartz is the son of composer Arthur Schwartz and lyricist Dorothy Fields. He began his radio career in the 1960s at WMCA and subsequently worked at WNEW (both in New York City) for many years. His programs are characterized by long stretches of music punctuated by Schwartz's spoken commentary, which ranges from anecdotes about the artists and songs he plays to reflections on his own life and relationships. He often shares stories about his parents, his experiences with celebrities, and his personal struggles.

His career has had periods of both great success and significant difficulty, including struggles with alcoholism and periods of unemployment. Despite these challenges, Schwartz has maintained a loyal following, drawn to his knowledge, vulnerability, and distinctive on-air persona.

In recent years, Schwartz has broadcast on Sirius XM Radio, primarily on the "Siriusly Sinatra" channel. He continues to be regarded as a unique and influential figure in the history of radio broadcasting. He has also authored several books, including memoirs.
