Jerry Smith (soccer)
Jerry Smith (born August 13, 1961) is an American soccer coach. He is currently the head coach of the Santa Clara University women's soccer team, a position he has held since 1987.
Smith has led the Broncos to numerous NCAA Tournament appearances and a national championship in 2001. He has also coached several players who have gone on to play professionally and for the United States Women's National Team, including Brandi Chastain and Aly Wagner.
Before becoming a head coach, Smith was a player himself, playing college soccer at Sonoma State University. He also holds several coaching certifications.
Smith is known for his commitment to player development and his tactical acumen. His teams are often characterized by their disciplined defense and creative attack. He is considered one of the most successful coaches in women's college soccer history.
