Edward Fanshawe (British Army officer)
Edward Fanshawe (1795 – 16 June 1858) was a British Army officer who served during the Peninsular War and the Crimean War.
Fanshawe was commissioned into the Royal Engineers in 1812. He saw active service in the later stages of the Peninsular War, including participating in the Siege of San Sebastián. He was present at the battles of Nivelle and Nive in 1813.
Following the Peninsular War, Fanshawe continued his career in the Royal Engineers, holding various postings both at home and abroad. He served in the West Indies and held several administrative positions within the Ordnance department.
He reached the rank of Major-General in 1857 and was appointed Commander of the Royal Engineers in the Crimean War in 1855, after the death of Sir John Fox Burgoyne. He was responsible for overseeing the engineering efforts related to the Siege of Sevastopol during its later stages.
Fanshawe was made a Companion of the Order of the Bath (CB). He died in 1858 in London.
