Jasmine Thomas (basketball)
Jasmine Thomas (born December 12, 1989) is an American professional basketball player who last played for the Los Angeles Sparks of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). She plays the guard position.
Early Life and College Career:
Thomas was born in Fairfax, Virginia, and attended Oakton High School, where she excelled in basketball. She committed to Duke University and played for the Duke Blue Devils from 2007 to 2011. During her collegiate career, Thomas was a four-year starter and became one of the program's all-time leading scorers. She earned All-ACC honors multiple times and was recognized as an All-American. She was known for her scoring ability, playmaking, and defensive prowess.
WNBA Career:
Thomas was drafted 12th overall by the Seattle Storm in the 2011 WNBA draft. She was later traded to the Washington Mystics and then to the Atlanta Dream before finding a more permanent home with the Connecticut Sun in 2015. She became a key player for the Sun, known for her defensive intensity and leadership. With the Sun, Thomas earned multiple All-Defensive Team selections and helped lead the team to the WNBA Finals in 2019. She was traded to the Los Angeles Sparks in 2022. She missed the 2022 season due to an ACL injury sustained overseas. In 2023, she played briefly for the Sparks.
Overseas Career:
In addition to her WNBA career, Thomas has played professionally overseas in countries such as Turkey and Russia during the WNBA offseason.
