Caronia

Caronia was the name of two Cunard Line transatlantic ocean liners.

• RMS Caronia (1905): This Caronia was a 1905 ocean liner built by John Brown & Company. She was launched on July 13, 1904, and sailed her maiden voyage on February 25, 1905, from Liverpool to New York. She was a sister ship to the RMS Carmania and was primarily used for transatlantic passenger service. During World War I, she served as an armed merchant cruiser and later as a troop transport. She was scrapped in 1932.

• RMS Caronia (1947): This Caronia, often referred to as the "Green Goddess," was a purpose-built cruise ship launched in 1947. She was known for her distinctive green hull and luxurious accommodations. She operated primarily as a cruise ship, sailing around the world and to various destinations. She was scrapped in 1969 after being damaged by fire. Her loss marked a significant turning point in the history of Cunard, as it signaled the beginning of the end for their dominance in the cruise industry's golden era. She was not primarily intended for transatlantic service, though she occasionally did that route.
