Jarkent

Jarkent (also spelled Zharkent; Kazakh: Жаркент, Jarkent; Russian: Жаркент) is a city in the Panfilov District of Almaty Region in Kazakhstan. It is located near the border with China, about 330 kilometers east of Almaty.

Historically, Jarkent was an important trading center on the Silk Road and later a significant point of commerce between Russia and China. The city's population is diverse, with Kazakhs, Uyghurs, Russians, and other ethnic groups residing there.

The Jarkent Mosque, built in 1895, is a notable architectural landmark, reflecting a unique blend of Central Asian and Chinese styles. It is known for its intricate wooden carvings and construction without the use of nails.

The city is the administrative center of the Panfilov District and serves as a regional hub for agriculture and commerce. Key industries include food processing and agriculture-related businesses.
