Japanese destroyer Yanagi (1917)
The Yanagi was a Kaba-class destroyer of the Imperial Japanese Navy. Commissioned in 1917, she served primarily during the First World War and the interwar period.
As a Kaba-class destroyer, Yanagi was designed for escort duties and general patrol work. These destroyers were built with an emphasis on seaworthiness rather than high speed or heavy armament, reflecting the operational requirements of the IJN at the time.
During World War I, Yanagi primarily patrolled Japanese home waters and participated in anti-submarine operations. She was also involved in escorting convoys. The Japanese Navy played a supporting role to the Allied powers, and Yanagi's service contributed to these efforts.
After World War I, Yanagi continued to serve in the IJN, primarily engaged in training exercises and routine patrols. Like many older destroyers, she was gradually superseded by newer and more capable vessels.
Yanagi was decommissioned and scrapped sometime during the 1930s. Specific dates for decommissioning and disposal are difficult to definitively ascertain due to variations in historical records. Detailed service records for vessels of her class are often incomplete or unavailable.
